A rose by any other name . . . except for these

In looking up names in our name book, Alissa and I pretty much agree that neither Dorcas nor Glaw are particularly fitting names for our baby. Not because they’re awful names (I have to say that because a couple of someones out there, sadly, are named “Dorcas” and “Glaw”) but because of the following reasons:

  1. You do not, ever, pair a term like “Dorcas” with a last name like “Johnson.” You just don’t.
  2. As lovely a name as “Glaw” is, I have a hard time not hearing it in my head as “The Glaw,” as if it were not just a name but a species of disgusting creatures found in a very b-quality movie.

  1. A couple of requests: If you have a boy, please don’t name him Kelly, or Pat, or any other name that might be considered a girl’s name.
Likewise, if you have a girl, please don’t name her Pat, or Roger, or, God forbid, Lawrence with a French accent (HER FRIENDS WILL CALL HER LARRY).
