Over the counter

Filed under: General — Tom @ 8:02 pm

Has Carefree bubblegum gone the way of the dodo? I prefer Carefree to the other stick-form bubblegum, Extra, which has a weird chemical taste after a while. Why is it that gum seems only to be found in small blister packs in which over-the-counter drugs are available? Has gum ascended to some nouveau riche status in snacking circles that chewing satisfaction found in the form of simple sticks is seen as low-class?

  1. Sticks are out, blister packs are in. I hear that Louis Vuitton is considering making a gum – blister pack, of course. Only 1 calorie per piece, and only $450 a pack!

  2. The ONLY gum I have ever liked was Carefree Wintergreen Bubblegum. It has NOT been on the shelves anywhere for at least a year??!!! I can’t remember who the maker Carefree is but if I knew, I would ask the company in person. It went off the market one other time – late 1990’s – I checked with the company and sure enough, they had so many requests for it that they put it back on the market. If I had a website for them, I would definitely beg for it to be back on the market. mc
