Trey Anastasio facing felony drug charges

I guess it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise given the band he was in, but I always hold out hope that somehow these guys rise above their surroundings. But not this time.

Back in mid-December former Phish frontman Trey Anastasio was arrested for DUI and possession charges (of prescription pain killers that did not bear his name) and just this week it was revealed that he also had heroin in his car and that he had told the arresting officers that he had been smoking hash. Things don’t look good for him.

I like Phish’s music. I like Trey’s music less, but I like it nonetheless. I distance myself from pairing the musicians with the music because I know these people are not heroes nor are they role models, but it saddens me no less when I see things like this happen. At least it happened this way instead of for the worst – I’ll look at the positive and hopefully he can get some help and get clean, since he did admit to officers that he “has a problem.” That is, after all, the first step, right?

I do notice that Trey Anastasio is listed at $25-35,000, but that might just be to cover his bail. […]
