Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, 2007

I only have a little bit to say about this because I only saw a little bit of this and only really care about two bands being inducted – Van Halen and REM. I just had to mention something because I was really touched by Van Halen’s Michael Anthony, the ex-bassist, who closed out his speech with well-wishes to, and I paraphrase here a bit, “Edward Van Halen, my brother, I hope you get well soon.” Mike proves himself a gentleman and the bigger man – since Eddie has chosen to reform Van Halen without him, replacing him with his son, Wolfgang, because of some stupid tiff only Eddie seems to care about. Without Michael’s simple, but effective bass playing and unbelievable high notes backing up David Lee Roth, there is no reunion. Michael Anthony is the heart of that band – and a good dude.
