Nearly unpronouncable, totally meaningless, but completely fun. I received this weird little French trio’s new album, Grötesk, as a promo yesterday and really didn’t expect much, honestly. Seriously dorky artwork – three geeky guys on the cover, very cheesy design work – and, you know, they’re French. Nothing seemed promising. I’m on my first listen now and nearly had to pick my jaw up off the floor. Think Zappa, think Steve Vai at his most light-hearted, think Mike Keneally. This is incredible. I need to listen to this a few more times before I say more, but I’ll at least leave you with something from YouTube:

If you like, there’s a lot more like that on the album and you can get that at Amazon. Their others are available overseas and for very fair prices here.

  1. Hey, can I send you our new album as a promo? Just send me an address to the email there. Thanks! -Yogi

  3. I had a feeling you’d like this, Mark. I’ve got their earlier two on the way from France as I write this, and they sound, from the clips I heard, exactly up your alley too. $30 delivered is more than a fair price, too. Just had to deal with some confusion due to how their site is set up and how it wasn’t set up to deal with Paypal, but a few emails got it taken care of.

And check out Yogi’s stuff too at CDBaby – you might like what you hear, too!
