Fripp and the League of Crafties

I’m just slightly disappointed with this week’s new download on DGM Live, if only because it’s not something entirely new. But it is pretty cool for fans who’ve been looking for this sadly long out of print gem – the Crafties’ Intergalactic Boogie Express, probably the most misleading title of any album bearing the Fripp name. It’s just typical Guitar Craft stuff – lots and lots of intricate, interweaving guitar parts, probably not the kind of thing that would engage anyone that is not interested in actually listening to instrumental guitar music (in other words, this is not gentle finger-picked stuff you might hear playing in the background at a scented candle store.) It’s hard, driving, aggressive stuff, sometimes dissonant, but always intriguing – if you’re into guitar, that is.

Like I said, I can’t complain too much – at least it’s available somehow – but it would have been nice to get an archival release as well. Next week, I’m sure.
