I missed a day of posting, but I doubled up the day before, so that counts in my book. I could have opted to stay home and be a miserly chunk or take my daughter out for a night of books and toys so mommy could have a little time to herself. A pretty good trade off, I think.

Here’s a tip to anyone that wants to make some money on Ebay right now: go find any copy of the recent DVD release of Led Zeppelin’s The Song Remains The Same, be it the standard release or the box. (Update: the box is the one you want – the regular edition, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD versions are worth very little in comparison.) Buy it, sell it on Ebay. Do NOT open it! You will PROFIT. It has been recalled by Warner Bros. due to some complicated, dumb copyright reason and will not be issued in this form again. It’s an instant collector’s item and is selling for several times the sticker price – if you can find it. I saw multiple copies of the box just last week, so I’m off to see if I can still score this possibly very profitable little find. Of course, I may be a week too late – everyone else might have grabbed the remaining copies. It’s worth a look for how much could be made off of this, however.

On a Led Zeppelin side-note, do everything in your power to avoid Sheryl Crow’s 1995 cover of “D’yer Maker.” It’s just a bad idea all around.

My amazing bargain 5 disc John Coltrane box arrived from Best Buy yesterday. And, unbelievably, this thing can still be had for the stunning price of $11.99. Really, you cannot go wrong there if you like jazz at all because even one disc is worth the full price. Basically, if you don’t like something in this set, you don’t like jazz, period. To me, someone who has a couple of very intensive Coltrane boxes, this still manages to cover territory I have yet to own – Africa/Brass is entirely new to me, as is Duke Ellington & John Coltrane. The other two discs of studio material is present on The Complete Quartets 8-CD box that I got many, many years ago, and Live at the Village Vanguard is best represented by the 4-CD complete Vanguard run, but it’ll be nice to hear these albums as they were intended for once.

It just blows my mind how un-storable toys are. Everything in adults’ lives is built to be shelved and organized. Everything in children’s lives is built to ruin any sense of order in adults’ lives.
