“Daddy, what you got all over your head?” was tonight’s unusual question from Amanda, asked in response to her feeling nearly three-days’ growth of beard on my face. “Just like a goat!” she said.
I spent a good deal of today moving furniture – much longer than anticipated, and it was way more tiring than I figured it would be, too. After 8 years, Alissa and I got rid of our much-abused Room Store
mistake couches. They seemed like a good idea at the time – dark green, with a velvetty type of texture that felt really nice, big puffy pillows. Little did we realize how they would quickly become lint, hair, and general dirt magnets, nor how they would be nearly impossible to clean, especially after we got cats who shed all over them and found them irresistible to use as scratching posts. Today I trucked them over to Goodwill with my dad and trucked back their very nice high-back leather couches, which are being replaced by even nicer leather couches. These will be everything ours were not. But it was a big job – the couches had to be dismantled because they are recliners, so each seat had to be moved separately or else the couches wouldn’t have even fit into our house. As goes with every plan, things just got out of hand and took longer than could have been expected. Nothing went wrong – it was very smooth, actually – but everything took at least twice as long as we figured. Oh well – it’s nice to have new couches. I’m just very, very glad I did this today instead of Sunday.
It was half-off day, apparently. Goodwill was having a 50% off sale and so was Dairy Queen. I didn’t take advantage of either, but I would have liked to have – of the latter.
