Like a child

Filed under: General — Tom @ 3:26 pm

I stood at the window, which overlooks a giant tree in our new building at work, and I thought, “That’s a nice tree.” And then I realized, as adults, we can’t just say things like that, or we look, well, “simple” or “childish.” I envy Amanda and her simple world. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to say what you’re really thinking? To simply say “That’s a nice tree” because it is, and not come up with some clever or grand way to say it, or some humorous way to mention that you like the tree? Can you imagine a world where adults just come right out and say what they’re actually feeling, instead of finding the most ambiguous ways of stating everything so as not to offend anyone? Life would be much less complicated if we could just do what Amanda did the other day when I pointed to her shin and asked her what it was called: “No, daddy! We’re not doing that right now!”

  1. I think you should feel free to say such harmless things and enjoy the free fun and joy that child-like (not childISH) thinking can bring into your life. 🙂

In addition to that, I think you should start wearing clothes with ducks on the butt, or at the very least, shirts that snap in the crotch on “business formal” days so you don’t have to keep re-tucking your shirt every time you reach for the phone.
