Andy Summer loves this shirt

In Phoenix on May 24, 2008:

Andy Summers’ terrible shirt

At Hard Rock Calling, June 29, 2008:

Andy’s terrible shirt again

And last night at The Police’s “final concert ever” (maybe, we’ll see):

Andy’s terrible shirt AGAIN

Andy, please, for the love of God, STOP with that shirt.

  1. I had to snicker the first time you wrote about this shirt. Now it’s even funnier!!! On Wednesday I was getting gas and saw a guy wearing a similar shirt and thought of you and Andy. Go figure, it’s made it to your blog again! What is he thinking? I mean, he must be able to afford more than one outfit that he can wear on stage, right? And of all things, this one?

  2. Not only is Andy wearing an extremely ugly shirt, he’s also sporting a guitar strap with a pop culture slogan that peaked at least six years ago…

  3. Awesome, Chris! I was so fixated on the shirt I didn’t even notice that. Poor Andy. Always the odd-man out in The Police, it seems, and it is still that way even now. You’ve kinda gotta love the guy.

  4. Andy is wearing the same shirt each show because each concert is being filmed. A CD/DVD of the tour will be released in October. They are likely taking the best bits from each show – and it’s likely easier to piece them together when the guys are wearing the same outfits. You’ll notice Sting and Stewart wear the same outfits often as well. The Police are the best band ever and Andy has never been the odd man out since he is an equal 1/3 of the Police sound. Some would argue his groundbreaking guitar style put the Police on the map.

  5. The DVD that is being released is a Best Buy exclusive, taken from the two Buenos Aires shows in Dec. 2007. News has been everywhere. I’m sure we’ll also get a DVD sometime in the spring for the farewell show on August 7, but not a piecemeal “show” like you suggest.

Also, they weren’t filming every show. They didn’t film the show I was at except to provide footage for the big screens, which is done at all shows by the venues.
