We’ve all seen them – those dudes who zoom up in the merging on-ramp lane and decide that they just don’t feel like joining the ranks of the slow lane just yet. As I joined their numbers today, I noticed a police truck a dozen or so cars ahead, then a moment or two later, one of these guys came zooming up beside the merging lane, long after the two lanes had become one. “Just keep going. You’re going to get it one of these days,” I said out loud as he passed.

Fifteen minutes later, who did I see pulled over on the side of the road . . . by what appeared the be the very same police truck that I’d seen earlier? Awesome.

  1. That’s one of the most awesome feelings in the world, isn’t it?

    I have a similar story:

I was on the highway, in the slow lane, doing a little over the speed limit. That wasn’t good enough for the guy in the truck behind me, so he decided to tailgate me. If there’s anything I hate more than being tailgated, it’s being tailgated in the g**d*** slow lane when I’m already exceeding the speed limit.

So I tapped my brakes just a bit, letting him know that he was a bit too close. That didn’t phase him, so I started slowing down. Keep in mind that I’m in the slow lane, exceeding the speed limit, and that there was a perfectly good passing lane that he could have been using to pass me, so I didn’t feel like a jerk for slowing down. I didn’t slam on the brakes or anything, I just slowly knocked a few mph off my speed here and there. That finally got his attention.

In order to show me how awesome he was, he swerved two lanes over, gunned it (an so began exceeding the speed limit even more), passed me, flipped me off, and then swerved two lanes over back in front of me.

Just then a police car who had been driving a bit behind us and saw the whole damn thing turn on his lights and pulled the guy over. The resulting sense of satisfaction was indescribable.
